Scuba diver and manta ray in Komodo National Park

19–26 Sept 2024 LIMITED AVAILABILITY

Join me in Komodo!

I’ll be your manta expert and photography guide.

Manta rays & dragons! Our 2024 trip to Komodo National Park, Indonesia still has a few spaces available. Komodo is home to one of the world’s largest populations of reef manta rays, and a global centre of marine biodiversity. This land-based trip, from Labuan Bajo in Flores, is a fantastic way to explore the iconic World Heritage Area while still being able to return ‘home’ each afternoon. Along with some fantastic diving (snorkellers are also welcome), we’ll visit the Komodo dragons too – these enormous monitor lizards offer some fantastic photo opportunities.

About Simon

I’m an irredeemable wildlife geek from New Zealand.

I work as a Principal Scientist at the Marine Megafauna Foundation, which I co-founded with Dr. Andrea Marshall. Much of my research at MMF focuses on the conservation of whale sharks, the world’s largest fish. I’ve written a textbook on these endangered giants – ‘Whale Sharks: Biology, Ecology, & Conservation’.

I’m also a Research Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where I’m working on grey nurse sharks (sandtigers) in eastern Australia.

I write about wildlife travel and photography at Nature Tripper, which I run with my wife Madeleine, and work as a Digital Imaging Advocate with Sony New Zealand. I host diving, wildlife-watching, and photography trips around the world. You can join me in the field here.
